Film Review: EXORCIST: THE FALLEN (2014)

Peter 'Witchfinder' HopkinsBy Peter 'Witchfinder' Hopkins21st July 2019Updated:21st July 2019No Comments2 Mins Read

EXORCIST: THE FALLEN ** U.S.A. 2014 Dir: Garrett Benach 81 mins

Taking more then half of what William Peter Blatty and William Friedkin brought to the genre with THE EXORCIST, this film sees nothing new brought to the table. The basic plot for the film sees Victoria play with a Ouija board and soon become possessed with a demon known as Abaddon. With her family becoming worried that Victoria is far from being herself, the son calls in a priest to do what he can to save his sister.
The demon becomes stronger within Victoria leading to a priest exorcising the demon from her in the most lacklustre final battle of good versus evil. The first part of the EXORCIST: THE FALLEN synopsis describes the film as ‘a terrifying, realistic depiction of a family torn apart by demonic possession‘. Now I can say with some certainty I have never witnessed a possession, but I am pretty sure it wouldn’t be as mediocre in real life as it was in this film. The main cast are all unlikable characters including the possessed Victoria, in fact the only likable person in the whole film is the priest. If you want to see another possession movie then check this out, but for a better THE EXORCIST rip-off check out the 1974 movie BEYOND THE DOOR.
