Film Review: FIGHTING THE SKY (2018)

FIGHTING THE SKY ** USA 2018 Dir: Conrad Faraj 97 mins

As strange eerie noises are resonating around the world and people are turning up claiming to be from the future. A team of Extra Terrestrial enthusiasts led by Ufologist, Lorraine (Angela Cole) uncover the source of the noises and makes a frightening discovery just as a full blown invasion is about to happen.

I don’t enjoy picking holes in movies but some are incredibly difficult to ignore and this one is full of them. In a way it kind of reminds me of an episode of Scooby Doo or maybe some other badly done kids mystery show. I spent a long time hoping that the alien would be revealed as an old man in a mask claiming that he would’ve gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those pesky kids but alas they didn’t even try with any humour. The acting and dialogue in this is just so bad from all involved. It has long drawn out scenes of boring and pointless character building which does nothing to endear any of them to you.

With cringeworthy moments of them all whopping for joy at discovering aliens then endless scenes of them hyperventilating when they encounter it. The alien itself looks quite good but you end up feeling sorry for the poor thing as it never actually does anything to anyone. For a low budget movie the CGI is really rather good. The effects and soundtrack are the most accomplished things about this movie. The score is quite orchestral at times. Often a little overbearing but effective and well produced. There are no scares and the few kills (if that’s what you can call them) are all off screen with no blood what so ever. Thanks to its CGI and soundtrack this scraped through with a two star rating from me, if were not for these it would be very lucky to get one star, it really is that painful.
