    Film Review: SINNER’S BLOOD (1969)

SINNER’S BLOOD *** 1969 USA Dir: Neil Douglas. 81 mins

Bikers terrorize a small town in Neil Douglas’s Sinners Blood.

When two newly orphan girls, Penny and Pat arrive to live with their perverted uncle and their cousins, a lesbian and moronic Aubrey. They scandalize everyone for having affairs with everyone like the motorbike gang, their uncle, their cousin, and the son of a religious preacher. When a gang member ends up being killed by a dose of LSD given by Penny, his homosexual lover revenges on her in a way you will not forget.

Sinner’s Blood is Director Neil Douglas’s only outing as a director. You can see why. This films comes across more Russ Meyer than anything, but not quite hitting the spot that Meyers films did. Don’t get me wrong this is a cult little LSD fuelled horror offering, but there is so many better films of this ilk out there!

I liked the film, for the time in which it was made it is very out there and touching on many themes which would have been very taboo at the time including homophobia and incest. Sinners Blood has some very strange un-erotic sex scenes which do tend to drag on far too long, and a very cringe worthy orgy scene. The film comes across as a mix of Revenge of the Nerds, meets  Screwballs meets Beyond the Valley of the Dolls with blood thrown in for good measure!

Expect the traditional fare that you get from a bikersploitation film including bikes, fights and bare breasts!

Fans of cult late 1960’s horror, sleaze and exploitation films will love this flower power no holds barred horror romp.

I’m yet to see a good print of this film, who knows does it actually exist? Will we see a niche distributo like Vinegar Syndrome put of a special edition Blu-Ray out down the line who knows?
