Book Review: ASCENSION A Lady Sarah Novella The Hybrid Series – Book 3.5 by Nick Stead

ASCENSION A Lady Sarah Novella The Hybrid Series – Book 3.5 by Nick Stead

Ascension is labeled as story 3.5 in Nick Stead’s Hybrid series. This novella follows Lady Sarah’s origin story from a princess waiting to inherit the throne to a vampire created from her master, Ulfarr. After a month-long coma, she wakes up and forces her kingdom to make accomodations to her new lifestyle, butting heads with her sister, Selina, in the process. Eventually, she fakes her death and sets off on her own. Years later, she reconnects with Ulfarr and teams up with multiple species of the undead to battle the Slayers before they destroy them all. In the process, she comes to understand why Ulfarr has come to hate werewolves.

Ascension is a short but sweet take that catches up the reader on one of the most prominent characters in the Hybrid series. Stead writes in a completely different style made to fit the character and the era. As a result, it’s more sophisticated than the books narrated by Nick. However, these scenes could have easily been worked in throughout the rest of the books in flashback sequences rather than a standalone story. Still, for fans of Lady Sarah, this is an engaging, historical, paranormal thriller.
