Book Review: DAMNED The Hybrid Series – Book 4 by Nick Stead

DAMNED The Hybrid Series – Book 4 by Nick Stead

Nick and his pack of undead creatures have escaped the dungeon, returned his sister, Amy, home, and are now en route to Canada where they can more easily hide from the Slayers. On the way, they encounter Will, a demon-possessed former Slayer who urges Nick to come with him to defeat the demon who they let escape the dungeon as part of a bargain for their own escape. This demon promises to possess millions of humans, putting Nick’s mother and sister at risk. Reluctantly, Nick agrees, detouring from their escape plan in order to battle another, more sinister evil.

Damned has the strongest start of all the books in the Hybrid series. With the characters banding together, an unorthodox family unit is formed. Nick’s humanity has not only returned but is stronger than even his human form after finding a loyal pack on whom he can rely. As with all of the books in the series, this one does drag in parts, but Nick’s internal monologue is kept to a minimum which allows for more forward action, and the road trip setting provides a nice contrast from the single-setting dungeon maze from the previous book.
