SUPER VIXENS *** USA 2020 Dir: Mister Hero. 94 mins
Synopsis: Here comes the new and exciting sexy super-heroine film series – Super Vixens! Three stories about women with superhuman powers who battle super villains but get in over their heads and are never the same again.
These women are in for the FIGHT of their lives!
Super Vixens is a super heroine movie containing three interlinked tales which follow three badass Super vixens, Omega Girl, the wonderful Valor and Dagger on a quest to rid the world of bad guys!
This is one extreme horror/superhero movie… three Scantily clad women dressed as superhero’s get tortured, raped and abused. That’s the general plot here!
Good points: It’s an original idea which is very well shot. The whole production feels like a snuff movie… kudos for that, which only adds to the seedy darkness of the film, plus there are a lot of homage’s to superhero movies and TV series, mainly the campy Batman TV series with Adam West playing Batman I grew up on as a kid. In the scenes where the women were tied up I kept waiting for Robin to burst in and punch his fist.
On the downside: I did feel a bit uncomfortable watching women being punched, abused, and raped on repeat. In fact it felt even more wrong in the context it was delivered. At times you do have to wonder if this was an actual film on porn hub you’d find whilst searching superhero porn/ soft-core superhero fetish film, that’s exactly what this film comes across as.
The scenes of torture and rape go on for far too long, you have to be a fan of extreme underground horror to feel comfortable watching this, you couldn’t watch this with the in-laws and I don’t think many couples would last long watching this in one sitting.
I think had this film been marketed differently as an extreme underground shock horor flick, you would go into it with different expectations, by the looks of the films cover art it appears as a feminist superhero flick, I think it needed a masked man with his hands clasped around one of the superhero’s throats to show what kind of film this is, its a hard one to market. I think its the first torture porn superhero movie I have ever seen!
It’s an original take on the genre, to say the least, and without the long drawn out torture scenes I would have liked this movie a lot more! The film could have been executed so much better, with more emphasis on the story than the over saturated brutality. I would have liked to have seen three very different tales… instead we got three interlinked stories that all had a predictable outcome, and I did want to see the men suffer the same fate as the women.
I did read that this may be first in the series of Super Vixens. I would watch the next film to see if they go in a different route, and it would be interesting to see just where the series evolves to. As we know that Superhero films and TV series like Watchmen and The Boys, that don’t follow the usual rules and see a dark side to superhero’s do work very well.
More Russ Meyer…Less Marvel!
