HOLLAND ROAD MASSACRE: THE LEGEND OF PIGMAN **** USA 2020 Dir: Emir Skalonja. 78 mins

Lauren, played by Heather Dunham, and Kylie, played by Kristina Santiago join forces in a desolate woodland after Lauren’s car breaks down on the infamous Holland Road and encounters Kylie who came to see a glimpse of the mystery figure known locally as Pigman. When Lauren finds Kylie she’s covered in blood after being attacked, and both women must do all they can to try and escape with their lives!

The whole idea of using Holland Road is great, a hotspot attracting people from all over the USA as they attempt to catch a glimpse of Pigman, the large beast of a man with the head of a pig and strength of an ox. This is one barbecue I would not want to attend!

The road itself is called Holland Road, it’s real location. The Haunted Pigman Road, as its called by ghost hunters, is just on the outskirts of Buffalo, New York. And, yes, in real life people gather every Halloween to try and catch sight of the Pigman.

The amazing gore grind style band Gra provide the awesome music in the film, it’s full on hardcore metal, which works as a great contrast to the imagery on screen.

A lot of indie horror films can be hit or miss, but this is a very entertaining indie horror effort. The Holland Road mystery haunted road is much like the famous Dead Man’s Curve, which is haunted by … You guessed it! A dead man, who appears in the middle of the road to make drivers swerve and join him in the underworld. It’s not only a great premise for a film, but we are introduced to a new killer icon in Pigman.

I really hope Pigman becomes a true horror icon, much like his predecessors Leatherface, Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. He’s scary as hell, and there’s a lot that could be done with the character/killer.

I would have liked to have seen more blood and carnage, but there’s a good deal on offer for the gorehounds here!

This is a great independent horror film and a very interesting and entertaining subject on which the film is based!
